Code Check 5th Edition is the flagship of the series. This is a “combination” book that includes Building, Plumbing, Mechanical, and Electrical. The new edition also has a feature that allows the user to tell at a glance if an item has changed from a previous code edition, and it includes a summary of the top 100 code changes of the last code cycle. Each Code Check has two columns of code references, so it will work in almost every building jurisdiction in the United States. The left column of each section in CC 4th edition is based on the 2003 International Residential Code. The right column is based on the 1997 Uniform Building Code (still used in California), the 2003 Uniform Plumbing Code, the 2003 Uniform Mechanical Code, and the 2002 National Electrical Code. Thanks to the highlighting of the code changes, it will also work in building jurisdictions that are still using the 2000 versions of those codes. Code Check Building is a book focused on the structural and non-structural building portion of the codes. It has no plumbing, mechanical, or electrical information. It contains the rules for framing, foundations, stairs, safety glass, wall coverings, roofs and so forth. It is a more detailed version of the topics that are in the first part of Code Check 4th edition. It is based on the 2003 International Residential Code (IRC) and the 1997 Uniform Building Code. Code Check Plumbing is based primarily upon the plumbing portion of the 2003 International Residential Code (IRC) and the 2000 Uniform Plumbing Code. Code Check HVAC is based primarily upon the mechanical portion of the 2000 International Residential Code (IRC) and the 2000 Uniform Mechanical Code. It also includes information from several of the NFPA codes. Code Check Electrical is based upon the 1999 and 2002 editions of the National Electrical Code. By comparing the differences between the two columns, inspectors can tell at a glance what changes occurred in the 2002 code.
